Contemporary Iran, like many other developing countries, has been transformed from an agricultural to a predominantly urban country, creating new challenges for the future of Iranian society. Yet neither the scope nor the quality of the knowledge of these new urban realities is adequate to meet these challenges and to be able to inform policy to address the problems they bring.

 

The objective of the Urban Studies Group of the Iranian Sociological Association, is to contribute to increasing the attention given to urban issues from a social scientific and inter-disciplinary perspective. We welcome all interested researchers, policy makers and other practioners and students, to join us in our various activities.
